Real Wedding: Country Garden

While I am just setting up shop for Swift Current weddings, I am not new to planning. I’ve even had the privilege of doing a bit of planning work in Swift Current.  I thought for my first Real Weddings post I would share a celebration I worked on right here where life makes sense.  Two years ago, I was honoured to work with my sister and her husband on their wedding.  While they did most of their own planning, we did a lot of consulting on theme, etiquette, budgeting, stationery, and all the little details involved in a perfect day. The month before the wedding, I took over putting all the pieces together.  It was uniquely challenging to plan a Swift Current wedding when neither of us lived in town.  It all came together beautifully in the end, and they had a perfect celebration of their unique story.

Warm sunshine and clear skies welcomed the day, setting the scene for a beautiful outdoor wedding.  Jocelyn spent the morning preparing with her girls, who were all so wonderfully supportive of her.  She looked so lovely, and as happy as I’ve ever seen her.  While they prepared themselves and enjoyed some quiet moments together, I put together the morning’s finishing touches.  Picking up the flowers, making sure the ceremony site was perfect, finishing off the decor and giving instructions to the ushers.

Wedding mornings are flurry of activity as plans turn into reality.  One of my favourite projects is setting up the flowers and watching them transform a space with their beauty.  This day was no exception as the flowers were exquisite and exactly what Jocelyn had envisioned.  The colours played perfectly off the navy and added a pop to the white of Jocelyn’s dress.  It was the first one she tried on…..some people have all the luck!

Throughout the wedding Scott and Jocelyn had found ways to include as many of their friends and family as possible. A talented group of the couple’s friends serenaded the guests as they arrived.  The ceremony included family and close friends reading scripture and performing. This special day included many more friends and family in so many ways, big and small.  Their excitement to be a part of this day was a true testament to Jocelyn and Scott.

Scott and Jocelyn had chosen to have a garden wedding and I loved how intimate that made the ceremony.  The personal service reflected them perfectly.  A few sudden raindrops began to fall as they promised themselves to each other, but a little water didn’t seem to bother the delighted couple.  Surrounded by family and friends, the minister introduced them as husband and wife.  What a beautiful moment!

The bridal party whisked off for photos while guests had lawn games and refreshments to enjoy as they waited.  Chelsey Krause got some lovely shots as they explored Swift Current and a bit of the countryside nearby.  The break for photos is always a little awkward for out of town guests.  While the short-lived drizzle frightened off a few people, it was so thoughtful of Jocelyn and Scott to provide options for travellers to this Swift Current wedding.

Jocelyn has always valued keeping to tradition and she found a lovely way to honour her history on her wedding day.  As something old and something borrowed, Jocelyn had some photos done with the hat our mom wore for her own wedding.  I love how these shots turned out and it’s such a special memory for them to share.

As evening approaches, so does the celebration!  I love to see the reception hall before everyone arrives.  Set up is complete, each place perfectly laid out, the cake and flowers displayed in all their glory.  Everything is perfect.  I take a moment to take it all in, double check each chair and place setting, and open the doors.  Now the party is about to start!

The tented reception Jocelyn and Scott had arranged was the perfect blend of beauty and comfort.  The lovely decor was comfortably laid back, and laughter and love filled the evening.  The food was spot on.  The cake and dessert table tasted as delicious as they looked.  As the evening wound down we sent the couple off with sparklers and they drove off to begin their new journey together.

While working with family can have it’s challenges, I can honestly say that this Swift Current wedding was a joy to be a part of.  It was a perfect celebration of Jocelyn and Scott’s love, personalities, and values.  The day turned out to be just like them….perfect for each other!
